Variable wiper relay
Years ago when I had another 240 Estate I remember reading an article written (I think) by Jack Cluer about swapping the standard intermittent wiper relay for another directly compatible one which would give a variable time delay. Unfortunately I've given away those old technical notes, and now I have a "new" 240 Estate (1993 vintage) and want to do that mod.
I've looked at all the posts referring to the same idea as applied to 850 models etc using a VW/Audi part sold under the label "WIWR" but this item has an entirely different connector layout from the original in my car. Does anyone have a copy of that old article still that they could send me the details from please? |

Hi, just had a flick through my old issues of 'tech driver' I have from Jan 2000.
Only found an article on "Intemittent Tailgate Wiper Mod'. Now the author of the article says "Episode 2, to follow, will cover front wipers". Afraid I cannot find said episode 2 in any of the later mags. Maybe in never materialised?

Paul, thanks for having a look. I remember the note was in one of the small format technical notes, not the main Volvo Driver magazine, and am fairly sure it was for the front wipers. I don't recall seeing the rear wiper version.

Yeh, it was the small format Tech' driver mags that I went through Brian. Only found the rear wiper 'note'. Can have another 'squizz' if you want. Or do you think it may have been before Jan 2000, which is as far as 'I go back'? Cheers

If someone does turn it up I am sure it would be generally welcomed.
Every time I use the wipers in light rain I get annoyed because the slower full wipe is often too much and starts squarking on a dry screen, but the intermittant wiper takes too long between wipes. Sometimes I find myself muttering "Go on, wipe damn you!". |

Thanks Jack - I found it at IPD as you suggested. I have ordered one and it costs $36 plus $63 for their lowest cost post method. Pity I didn't start out looking for this when the Pound sterling was worth two Dollars!
Paul, yes it may have been before 2000 - we have had two other 240s in the family in the last 15 years. And Clifford, here is the link to the IPD page where it is described: http://www.ipdusa.com/version.asp?st...D=0&V_ID=11309 |

That's really useful - might get one of those. How do you adjust the delay though ?

Gosh, that's fantastic. I never imagined it would so cunningly use the original stalk to change the delay at will.
Thanks jack and brianO |
