confusion 163 or 185
Hi, I've just bought a 2005 S60 D5, The logbook states it's a 163bhp, it comes up as a 163bhp on registration look up. However, it has the grey engine cover and the swirl arm that as far as i'm aware is only on the 185bhp models. Is there a logical explanantion? thanks in advance.

Badge on the boot say 2.4 or D5? D5 is the 185

Yes, they made a 163 and 185 Euro 4 engine. As NI Nut rightly say's, check the bootlid. D5 badge denotes 185bhp 2,4 D denotes 163

Thanks for the quick response guys. It says 2.4D on the boot lid, I'm just puzzled why it has the engine with the grey cover and the swirl arm if it's a 163bhp? or was there a cross over period? I own an XC90 185bhp and have previously owned an XC90 163bhp so i know the difference, or i thought i did lol.

D5 Euro 3 Black engine cover NO DPF 163 bhp. D5 Euro 4 from about 2005 Grey Engine cover, with DPF and swirl flaps available in 163 bhp and 185 bhp on S60 and V70 but 185bhp only on XC90

Brilliant, thanks for that. I was puzzled. Next question, which injection system will it have? I did a diesel purge injector flush using the closed loop system on my old XC90 with amazing results. I can't do it on my new XC90 due to the different injection system. Will i be able to do it on this one?

No, from what I'm led to believe the E4 won't allow that closed loop.
