Rear passenger door won't open
Hi all, 2017 V90 door refuses to open from inside or out, worked fine just moments before. Seems like electrical rather than mechanical, anyone had similar?

Not on my V90 but I did have your problem on a previous XC90. It turned out to be a cable between the door handle mechanism and the actual locking mechanism had come adrift at the lock end.
Fortunately I was able to open the door by the exterior handle but as both your internal and external handles won't work I'm not sure how you'll get the door card off to repair it. Better giving the problem to a dealer I fear. |

I think your right Cassell, its a coupling adrift somewhere. Main dealer is 2 hour round trip so will have to wait for next service.

My XC90 is at the dealer on Monday for the same issue.
I’ve had a couple of instances where this has happened on both rear doors but it rectified itself within a couple of days. Glad I took out the 2 year extended warranty now. |

Sorted
Had some spare time so decided to look at this door. The card can be removed with the door closed, two screws behind the wood trim, one under the arm rest, and one hidden under the window switch then lift up the card watching out for wires.
The big plastic panel which holds the speakers, window motor, etc is held in with about 20 screws around the edge only and is difficult to get maneuvered off with the door closed as it is attached to the window by the winding gear. Gave the lock a good dose of DW40, pushed, pulled, and fiddled with the cable and it came back into life. Easy to put back together when the door is open. took about an hour and I had no idea what I was doing. |

Mine have done this on three occasions over last two years (car is 4y old now). Once it lasted a couple of days and the other two times just a few hours. It happened to both doors (not at the same time). Very annoying but can’t reproduce it so assume just one of those those things.

Mine was diagnosed to require 2 new rear door locks.
Total cost £902. There is a video on YouTube showing how to remove the door card. |

T8 Hybrid XC90 R-Design rear door lock problem...
I tried to open my rear door earlier today, but for some reason the handle didn’t seem to engage the lock mechanism inside the door... I read a thread to find this seems quite a common occurrence on the Volvo. It was suggested to operate the lock/unlock on the drivers door fast simultaneously which could possibly solve the problem. I drove 135 miles this afternoon, and did this every chance I had. I’m not certain how many times it took to get the lock to work, however when I reached my destination I tried the door, and hey presto it opened. So maybe try to persevere with the procedure for a little longer and it may work for you to. Thanks to the chap who suggested this.

Yes this worked for me on the past. But I prefer for them to fix it before the warranty runs out.
