So, headed for the Volvo specialist this morning. Still no dials but all okay until after about fifty miles (nearly there) it just inexplicably died. No warnings, no odd noises, just coasted to a halt. Now awaiting AA to finish the journey so that it can be plugged in (Four hours so far and still waiting for them and this was supposedly flagged as a priority job. My recent experience of the AA is going to be a whole new post once the car issues are sorted). Car turns over but won’t fire. Lots of error messages. Does it possibly have a limited distance it can travel if the alarm is still activated?
I’m totally lost with this.

Apparently the CEM may be on its way out. Fixed for now with all faults cleared but don’t know for how long. If CEM replaced other faults may appear. What to do now?

whoever looked at it should be able tell what is going on If he or she is a volvo technician .. the CEM is pretty robust pre 2005 ...

Well respected Volvo specialist. They said “indications” are that the CEM is on it’s way out. They put it on the diagnostics and wiggled wires around and everything now works. They just don’t know for how long.

It would be a good idea to get the CEM out and get the circuit board out and check it for corrosion , on the board and also the pins and plug sockets .. a simple clean up of both could do the trick . It is sure to let you down in an inconvenient place if you leave it . Is yours a 2005 Model year ? They have water leak problems over the CEM ..

Diagnostics attached. Is this a sign of the CEM dying or has it just never been cleared properly? Drove it 60 miles yesterday after all cleared and everything worked, including things which had been playing up (like the wipers). I must confess I'm not sure that I can trust its reliability at the moment.

well that must be a record :-) Interesting that the CEM has no communication faults , the Brake Control Module cant communicate with the Engine Control Module or the Steering angle sensor ..

You have to clear them all and re print at the earliest opportunity after the light comes on gain ..

Do I trust it though? Will the errors gradually appear in a manageable way or could they all come at once and end up in the same situation? Indecision, indecision.
