That's not good to hear, that you're back at the hospital again. Hope you will get better soon! If you get the codes, please update this thread. We'll take a look at it then, as I'm sure, the fix will be cheaper, than what you will likely loose selling it without being repaired. This anti-skid is a PITA, to many components and only one error message... Yes and thank you, this _is_ a lovely area to live in. If you had been to Ottobrunn, I suspect MBB/EADS/Airbus military? Actually I used to have my regular's table from my Harley in Ottobrunn. I live a little more to the south-west of Munich. I can see the Zugspitze from my livingroom window sometimes. If you get back here again, let me know. Funny enough, my wife and I are extensively thinking about moving to another country. Our favourites are Canada or Scotland (great grandfather moved from Scotland to Germany => back to the roots?) Get better soon, and let us know how you get on!

Hi all. Thanks for your kind thoughts and best wishes. I have survived another admission to hospital where they have delayed my big day until the new year. Now it depends if I can last that long without another stay in hospital. Come the new year, I will be in for many weeks and maybe months. All courtesy of a surgeon who “erroneously” (being polite there) removed all the important bits of my insides during a routine day procedure. He also, damaged 2 others in the same 5 day period, but still continues to practise, such is the extent of the NHS cover up. Watch this sp ce.
Anyway, back to the XC70. We managed to get the car to the Volvo independent garage and they put it on the Vida. The code (will find out the number) on the Vida suggested the Steering Angle Sensor (clock spring?) They found that a software update for the SAS on my 2005 car had not been done, so they cleared the codes and did the update plus test drove it several times with no problem.. On the 25 mile drive home there were no problems UNTIL the last left hand sharp bend when the warning came back on. The car is now sat on my drive and hasn’t been driven since. We are now in 2 minds as to whether to keep it as a 2nd car as we it has been used as an Ambulance for me on several occasions to take me to hospital 75 miles away as I lie across the back seat and my son drives me there as quick as possible. My wife’s new car doesn’t quite have the space or comfort of a XC70. We may just sell the S60 for £750 for a quick sale and to make space on our drive if anyone’s interested. Drive away. It has a slight misfire for the 1st 1/2 mile but drives with no problem after that. It has no radio fitted at the moment, but I can fit a working HU650 for the full asking price. Thanks again all. Kind regards. |

Hope you & your family cope as best as possible. Good luck (and yes, AIUI there are often medical 'slip-ups' such as you described but they can take decades, literally, to come out into the public domain). P.S. If you sell the S60 then I'd suggest simply including the stereo in the deal (in the boot that is) would be perfectly ok. One less issue to deal with right now.

Thanks CharlesStevenson. Agreed, plan B does seem to be the cheapest option and a good compromise for now.
As for the “slip up”. This “slip up” was the equivalent of going in for a cartilage operation on your knee and waking up with your leg amputated. To find out he then did the same thing to another TWO patients in the same week before being “found out” and stopped is particularly annoying. To find out he is still practising is unbelievable as I cannot think of any other profession that could support such an act. Especially as it is so life threatening, changing and limiting for no good reason. As you you say, it can take a long time to get into the public domain but this certainly will one day. My family will make sure of that, whether I am still alive or not. |

Saying I'm shocked doesn't come close to expressing what I think of what happened!
It's close to home too - my wife's got issues with both ankles & her left knee (ACL related IIRC) so to have that happen to her... This happens a lot, as I'm sure you've been looking into in more detail since this botched-op.

Frankly, I have no idea what to say in response other than, "FFS what is the world coming to?" I can only hope that what time you seem to have left is better than what you're going through right now.
Obviously, now you're back from hospital it's time to stop lazing around. There's no earthly reason why you can't fit the radio! Kiddin. I agree, leaving it in the car gives the next owner an opportunity to get their fingers shredded I've just been diagnosed with having FOUR prolapsed discs as well as age related narrowing of the spinal canal. This all needs spinal surgery to correct. I guess quite understandably, reading your tale, the trepidation I was feeling has now become slightly more like paranoia. I'll certainly be researching the procedures and questioning the surgeons up hill and down dale before hand. Take great care won't you and don't hesitate to let us know how it's going. If there's one thing Volvo people are good at, it's keeping everyone grounded and treated normally David

Hi all.
As promised, I have found out the codes found by my Volvo specialist when they did the software update. The Codes were SAS-000E and BCM-0109. This might prove useful info for someone else? I will not be pursuing it any further. The codes were cleared and the software update for the SAS on a 2005 model XC70 carried out. The warning stayed away for at least 30-40 miles and came back right at the end of the last journey to our house, during a tight left bend. Car still drives fine. The XC70 has not been driven since and will now be kept as a backup “Ambulance” for me. Our S60 is still for sale for £750, just to make space on the drive plus it is not being used at all. 2 cars are still too many, but 3 is just a crowd! Regards.
