Dashboard bulb replacement
Hi all,
New to this site and looking for a little help. I drive a 1999 S40 T4 and I have a question about replacing the bulbs behind the dashboard dials. What I'm wondering is do these dials pull out from the front or do I have to remove the dash and access them from behind? Thanks in advance for the help! |

I can't remember exactly how to do them but I know the instrument panel comes out without removing the whole dash and that it was a real pain in the backside to do

Hi,
See the attached as it may help. Usually the instrument cluster will come out but you need to exert more force on the top of the dash to be able to squeeze it out. Feels like you may break it but just a matter of easing up the dash just enough to slip the instruments out. You may want to disconnect the cables from the back. Also, maybe worth trying, you could try removing the panel from the footwell and trying to access the bulbs from there. Was able to do that on mine, but whether you can on this car - have a go.. Des. . .

HI, New to this site and have found it a great help . I have a 1999 S40T not a T4, should be similar, I cannot access the bulbs from under the footwell, but have half removed the instrument panel to gain access to the bulbs, you can lift the dash at the top right corner and squeeze it through, so you don't have to remove it completely. The problem that I now have is there are 2 plugs at the rear which are not on leads but are fixed, they fit in the back of the cluster when you push it back home, I am now having a lot of trouble trying to line these plugs up. Help would be gratefully appreciated.

pretty sure those 2 plugs drive the whole unit...when I took one out in the breakers they didn't flap around too much...the only way to do it is to remove the whole unit and plug the wires back in again
