removing trim inside tailgate
The high level brake light on my recently aquired 940 lpt estate went. When I went to remove the unit the complete unit came off (including the lens housing attached to the boot trim panel) Question is how do I get this trim off, so I can screw the light unit back on ? There are 4 clips along the bottom of the trim. I took these out, but the trim seems fixed around the interior boot release. I don't want to break anything, if I can help it!

Hi,
When I asked a dealer about doing just this, they advised that the trim surrounding the inside door handle would most likely be broken on removal. Certainly if they did the job.. I will say that without knowing how it clips into place does make removal difficult - you do not know what angles/forces to use... Ok... You ready???? I wasn't! Open the tailgate. First job is to clear the handle section: Have a look, particularly at the plastic that surrounds the opening. Use a flat bladed screwdriver and start at the bottom edge. Get the blade just under the lip, and strike the handle with your palm. A hard strike, but none too vicious! this should dislodge the trim slightly. Continue and work round the trim until you can remove it. You then have got access to the 2 bolt that holds the pull plate in place and the screw that keeps the opener on the metal. Remove. Then remove the 4 plastic trim holder on the bottom edge of the trim (twist 90 degrees and remove).. Now carefully lift the whole trim panel up and be careful as there are 4 clips in place of the window surround. Done. Des. . .

Hi,
As an update to the above: You do NOT need to touch the handle/opener mechanism as it stays on the door. You will need to undo those 2 Torex screws to release the trim. Also watch the removal of the trim as if the car has ever had a replacement rear screen, there may be excessive sealant there, as I have just found out. Broke 2 of the retaining clips at the top of the trim!!! Mutter ... Des. . .

The trick is to push the trim panel forward, forward as in towards the front of the car with the tailgate fully open, the same movement would be upwards when the tailgate is closed.
