I've done that more than a few times over the last ten years or so, especially with my old Rover 200, which was an infmaous swallower of screws, nuts, bolts and other fixings; I bought a magnetic telescopic pick-up tool just for that car

Thank you all. It was much easier in daylight and the housing came off (and went back) easily.The phone had dropped right down below the handbrake pivot and tucked beneath it. Tesco's don't have any Semtex in at present so i tried Gaffer tape on the fingers and that did the trick. Your help is much appreciated. (Except perhaps the suggestion of Semtex!)
