Default HETO XC90s

I have started noticing that Highways Agency; Highways England; National Highways* have started tooling around in fully liveried XC90s just recently. Anyone any idea which engine/trim they have specced?

* delete as appropriate.

They previously used Disco's and Land Cruisers as the low range box gave them the ability to tow lorries a few dozen feet to clear carriageways, etc.

The current XC90 is a great car, but with no low range, no real off road ability, a van at a third the cost would be perfectly adequate.

But not nearly as classy for them to sit in for hours upon end..... Very easy to spend other people's money

They are phev T8 - highways agency has bought a load of these and BMW X5 phevs with the claim they will save lots of co2. With 3.5kW charging and a high time away from base I doubt they will do very many electric miles

I took issue with some HETOs in my local shop one Saturday morning a few years back. Their Landcruiser was busily idling unattended outside, reversed into the parking space spewing diesel fumes into the shop. He seemed entirely unbothered and even explained it wasn't him leaving it running, it was a function of the car having a runstop system or something. I decided quite quickly not to bother wasting my time trying to reason with a moron who - if I carried on - would view me as "an abusive member of the public we have to deal with daily" rather than a " concerned member of the public with a valid point". I got my paper and left whilst they were still choosing snacks......

Yes, runstop. Anyone tries to drive off and touches the controls and the car stalls and cant be restarted without the key.

They may keep them running to charge batteries, particularly if they've been parked in a fend-off position for a while with the strobes running. Also the onboard computer system that dispatches them jobs and sends them info can take a while to boot, and if theyre only out for the car for a short while its easier to leave it running and runstop prevents it being stolen.

Of course, they could have engaged with you and communicated that politely.
