Default oil replenishment

S80 2007 Model year D5 engine Oil requirement A5/B5

It became apparant that needing to top up the engine oil on the S80 that A5/B5 does not convey a lot !
Going on the owners club web site produced a ref to a Castrol oil that is no longer available.
Therefore visiting the Castrol web site and entering my vehicle registration for the relevant all nearly all the oils specified have to be obtained from the Volvo dealership. Speaking directly with their Technical Department they confirmed this to be true and it is NOT available retail !!
So i took the 30 minute journey to the local Volvo dealer -no joy/didnt understand/Part Manager suggested i order a Litr on the back of their next bulk order-which could take a couple of Months !!
Suggested i book car in to have this simple task carried out.
Back to the dealer in Wiltshire-MRG who phoned the Dealer i was visiting to see if he could get them to help me - response NO
So MRG have supplied me with the oil ;-
CASTROL 0W-30 SLX Proffesional Longtec
Salulatory lesson learned
so make sure that when your car is serviced you buy an extra litre to top up between services
This will save you time and effort and if you go Continental touring you dont need a map showing you where all the dealerships are.

The lesson I would take from that is to use an oil that is widely available. It is surely the spec that is important not that it has to Castrol.
Of course the beauty of owning a D5 is that it tops its self up with diesel.
