Default S40 D5 over filled oil

Hi all, new to this so please be gentle with me.

i'm a proud owner of a d5 s40, cracking car but main dealer servicing has been a nightmare. main problem now is the oil level sensor triggers the engine management service warning each time it is serviced. my extremely reliable independent garage insist they are filling the car to the correct level and cannot cancel the engine management warning, volvo main dealers appear to be the only people who can do this but want to charge a diagnostic fee plus a fee to drain the oil which i believe is unecessary as the level is correct on the dip stick.

i would be gratful of any advise

It seems that on the whole Volvo engines don't like to be overfilled
Certainly on my v70 2.4 there was a recall and new advice to fill to 75% on dipstick not level. Why they cant fit a different dipstick I don't know.
This may be the same for you
Easy to remove some oil - its under the car and (very carefully) slacken off the drain plug and let it drip into a washing upbowl or similar - make sure you keep the plug in the thread and don't do it hot!
Take about a pint out and then top up again later if needed
