Default Electronic Parking Brake problem

My 2008 V70 D5 has a parking brake problem. It all works and auto releases on first start, but any subsequent stop won't auto release. From what I read it sounds like the behaviour you would expect from not having seat belt in use, but the seat belt is used, and the alarm works if it is not so its sensor is clearly working.

Got a new EPB module fitted and software, but it still fails to auto release except the first time after engine start.

Any advice or experiences like this from other users?

Just to understand perfectly, you are saying that it works like this for your:
  • Parking brake is applied.
  • Engine start.
  • Start driving and the brake releases automatically.
  • Stop driving and apply the parking brake.
  • Start driving, but it doesn't release automatically.
  • Stop driving and apply the parking brake.
  • Stop engine.
  • Start engine.
  • Start driving and it releases automatically.
Is this what you experience?

OK. Well, then it's not identical to mine. I was out, doing an errand, and tried it just to check. I can apply the parking brake, with engine running, and have it released just by pressing the accelerator gently, any number of times.

But that doesn't help you, of course, except for being sure something is wrong. Or at least different.

Is it auto or manual?

My manual needs the clutch peddle pressed down sufficient for the clutch position sensor to be satisfied before auto release operates.
If it's an auto I've no idea sorry.

The clutch sensor is working. It works for the first start. And for the actual engine start. So it's not that.

I tried driving very slowly, less than 5-10mph, stopping and putting the park brake on. It works every time, unless I go above 10mph, when it won't auto release next time. This really makes me think its something to do with the seat belt algorithm.

When you stop, do you go into neutral before selecting a gear and driving off again?

Either way it's the same.

Right, I've had it on mine.
First start clutch to the boards engine starts.auto release works.
Come to a stop, engage handbrake.
Go to pull off and dip clutch to engage gear try to pull off and auto release doesnot work.
When engaging gear to pull off make sure clutch is dipped at least as far as starting position and auto release works every time.

Much as I would preffer a traditional handbrake lever EPB is what I have and once I got my head around its vagaries I can get it to work every time and the biggest learning curve was the depth of the clutch dip for it to work, far more than needed to engage gear on my car.
