Default 2011 s60 d3, is it a ford engine?

Might buy a s60 d3. Anyone know if it’s a ford engine?

Also what should I look out for? I usually like to plug my laptop in, as I have done when buying VAG group cars. But I don’t have or know what software I would need. Can standard code readers be used?

The D3 is a 5 cylinder Volvo engine which shares its origins with the original D5 of 2002. It's very good...

With regard to diagnostic software, VIDA all they way... A standard code reader will tell you some of what's behind the MIL lamp being on but there are around 20 other modules on the car which you need VIDA for.

How much does Vida cost? Any clones? Might look at car this weekend so probably won’t be able to get Vida that quick, but could get a standard reader. Would that show the most expensive issues? Or is it Vida before I buy/look at an s60?

Also checked the mot history and found advisories for wearing front tyres on the inside edges a year apart. Is this a problem or just tracking?

Also it failed last November on:

Fuel pipe union leaking in engine bay (6.1.3 (b) (i))

It seems as if it’s been fixed as it then passed. Any ideas possible alarm bells?

I didn't buy VIDA/DiCE before I bought mine and I still haven't. Regular OBD2 diagnostics work fine, at least for powertrain issues.

That engine needs to have had correct service attention to the aux belt and tensioner, otherwise it can come off and then, somehow, possibly interfere with the cambelt with serious consequences.

There is also a windscreen bonding issue where water can get in and then affect the vehicle electrics. Check the passenger front footwell for damp. Apparently you can also push on the windscreen from the inside and see it moving away from the mounting.

I believe the replacement interval is 54k for the belt and 108k for the tensioner, plus there's also some issue of the original hydraulic tensioner having to have been replaced with a spring type. Sorry to be so vague but I don't have this engine.

I suggest a forum Search to discover the correct details.
