Best option is to convert to 12V. lighting quality as different as chalk and cheese. It's what i did. Also giver better and easier starting.

It IS a 12v system, Arcturus. I have ordered a Lucas A127, alternator. . .
Thanks everyone, for advice. It’ll be Spring soon! |

The small Denso alternators are more than powerful enough, easy to fit and cheaper than Lucas or Bosch. IMO a better choice. They have built in regulators.

The advantage of the Lucas and Bosch is they should fit the original dynamo mounts without modification, if memory serves the Denso needs different mounts.

Righty. Since about 1990, I have only two alternator deaths, both o.e. in 240’s. The PV is not everyday car, tho it does 6k miles a yr, so hopefully a A127 will be reliable enough.
While we’re here, does anyone know how to wire an ammeter to show discharge, as well as the draw? |
