Engine shuddering at idle
2003 S80 2.4 petrol AUTO, 120k
Hi, My car has started to shudder when I switch it on, it happens when the car is in park and lasts about 10 seconds. It sounds as if the engine is hunting, but the rev counter remains constant and doesn't move. When I put the car into drive and keep my foot on the brake, I feel the shudder again through the brake pedal. When I reverse out my my drive it continues to shudder, but when I start to drive normally it goes a away. The only other thing out of the ordinary is when it's changing up from 1st to second, there's a slight pause before it engages the gear and the revs go up. This has only happen once or twice in the past week. Also, once when changing from 4th to 5th it seemed to 'bump' into gear. Any ideas? |

I'd be tempted to start by cleaning the throttle body.

The Engine Management Light came on today, the code generated was P0304, misfire from cylinder 4. I'm guessing this is a coil, since the plugs were changed at the last service a couple of months ago.
I did notice there are 2 thin cables coming out of the air filter cover, one of them has broken off at the other end. What are these and where do they connect into? thanks |

Most probably an ignition coil, see the other topic here on the forum (please don't drive the car until fixed)

It is probably the one that connects to the inlet manifold near pot no 5 - the rubberised right angle connector at the end of the tube sheared on mine.

I don't think those vacuum lines are related to your issue. I ran a cone filter on my 2.4NA V70 and just left those lines disconnected and had no issues
