Volvo V60 T6 AWD latest edition
Got rid of my 850R.....
Replaced it with this. 2012 V60 T6 R design AWD Polestar'd 330 horse Jap import £280 a year road tax due to this.... Better than £580. Surprisingly cheap to insure. Only 20 quid more than my V60 D3 per year. 21000 miles (well it did have, just ticked over to 22k, must stop using it so much) Almost all the toys. Upgrade TFT display. Savage is the best word to describe it. Sounds amazing. Looks like any other R design V60 but goes like a stabbed rat. Almost a bit of a sleeper. Very, very rare. Didn't appreciate how. Only 35 registered in the road in the UK. Far less my my old 850R (78 manuals, plus the autos). Worthy addition to the fleet. T. |

Some spirited driving lowered its range a tad...
It's not my daily drive so there is no need to panic.... T. |

...another thing I like about Volvo is they make a good street sleeper.
I used to love burying Escort RS Turbo's and Astra GTE's in my 440 Turbo back in the day (when I was young and foolish...)

Aye..... Like Lager on a hot summers night...
27mpg on the first tank (30 mile trips down the motorway mostly, but still the new toy so quite a few squeezes on the loud pedal). 23mpg on the 2nd tank, (lots of short journeys and quite a few squeezes on the loud pedal). Not too bad considering. They used a lot of nifty technology/ideas when they designed the engine to help with fuel consumption. Thankfully it's a 2nd car and not used daily. T. |

Couple of separate little updates....
Just done a smidge under 2000 miles in the car now. Average mpg is 24.27. (Worked out properly). Pretty chuffed with that. A lot of mixed driving, mostly involving a rest day blast. |

Thanks to Covid, actually catching it (my whole household)....
I've found myself having to keep busy...... Which usually involves dreaming of various upgrades.... including better brakes and a stainless exhaust.... Thankfully no impulsive buying. However it did get me researching the AWD system and various fluid changes. Although the car has only ticked over 23k miles now, its a good 10 years old so thought the fluids could do with a refresh. Started with the haldex AOC as it seems to be the most important. Lost of sludge on the filter and in the pump housing. Fluid like a well stewed tea colour. All cleaned and back together. Tackled the transmission today. Have to confess I did not buy Volvo branded fluid. Seemed excessively expensive and really wanted 10/12 litres of the stuff.
In the end I bought TF80SC specific oil from Westway lubricants. 10 Litres for 60 quid. Volvo stuff seemed to be 80 quid for 4 litres which would have allowed for one change. Anyway, drained the oil. About 3 litres came out. Very dark. Certainly no signs of red in that stuff. Filled it up. Went through the gears. Drained. Oil still very dirty. Filled up again. Drained again. Final fill. Let the car run and warm up the gearbox oil to 50C to check final level. Small amount wasted to get the level right. All torqued up and left without about 0.5 litre out of the 10 I bought. VIDA reset to tell the car its got new oil. Purchased oil for the rear axle so that is the last job when it arrives leaving me with a fully refreshed AWD system front to back. T. |
