Default 2008 XC90 SE Lux D5 geartronic 7 seater and camper!

I know I'm likely to regret this, but I've bought a Disco 3 and so this has to go...

I've had it since the start of January this year when a trader friend delivered it to me from Northern Ireland during lockdown. Since 2015 or so it's been my brother's family car.

It's MOTd til the end of November (it's always had the stricter Northern Irish MOTs so doesn't show up on MOT checkers)

158000 miles - still in use and rising.

It's the 2008 facelift model, SE Lux so:

185bhp D5 - capable of indicated low 40s MPG on the dash - realistically probably closer to mid-high 30s

6 speed geartronic

Active bending xenon headlamps

Heated front seats/Electric drivers/Charcoal leather

Climate (I had this regassed a few weeks ago and it's nice and chilly)

18" alloys with 4x Kumho Crugen tyres fitted in April this year

Powerfold mirrors

Auto wipers

Aux in, rear seat headphone sockets so you can plug kids headphones in in the back

2 keys, V5, service history (roof bars not included though)

Since January, I've done:

Oils and filters (including part change of geartronic oil - they respond better to a partial change every service than a flush)

Fitted a new swirl flap arm - all works as it should

4x new Kumho Crugen tyres

2x front wishbones and balljoints

1x rear wheel bearing

Witter swan neck towbar fitted with electrics

ABS ring

Bonnet gas struts

Front discs and pads

New genuine Volvo rubber floor trays in light grey (they're all discontinued now - light grey was the best option)

Bebuilt the boot release handle with a stainless hinge so it doesn't stick like most.

It also comes with (if you want it) a basic camper setup for the rear:

Made to measure plywood bed base with under bed storage- this can be removed in 2 minutes without any tools, or can be half removed to keep 5 seats and a useful storage platform in the back.

It takes a 4 ft mattress perfectly. I use a 4" thick memory foam 'topper' which works well, any thicker and it might get a bit too cosy in there.

'Limo' 5% window tints on all rear windows - applied by me with the odd wrinkle but they keep things discreet

Heko wind deflectors - crucial for avoiding condensation when sleeping

Blackout curtain for behind the front seats, with discreet 3D printed mounts on the B pillars

I've also added the internal tailgate release so you can open the tailgate from bed.

I'll give it new oil and filters before it goes. Belts aren't due for a while yet - will confirm!

It doesn't use any oil, coolant or other fluids, it doesn't leak rain in either!

The DPF is still fitted and the tailpipes are spotless - there's no sign that it's ever emitted even a puff of soot and it's never given any trouble either.

Now the bad bits:

The bodywork has some suncream hand prints here and there - I believe this needs cutting back with G3 or similar to properly remove - I blame my nephew and niece

The offside rear door gained some new scratches a few weeks back - as if it was keyed but that's not a common occurrence in rural Cumbria so I'm not sure!

A message comes on the dash for the Parking sensors - it has a couple of dead sensors, I got some used ones but they were pre-facelift and so didn't fit, and I've never got around to doing them again. No other messages on the dash.

Asking £3750 to a VOC member - I'll list it elsewhere in a few days for £4000-4250 once I've cleaned it out and taken some nice pics.

Great if you want to go camping more discreetly than you can in a van, or even just as a 7 seated family steed.

The car is in Ulverston LA12 - however my new Discovery is in Hebden Bridge in Yorkshire, so if you're in Lancaster, Preston, Bolton, Halifax etc. I can deliver!

More photos available but the forum won't let me upload them for some reason!

Happy to take offers with or without the bed base etc.

I'm travelling from Cumbria to Somerset on the Bank Holiday weekend - so could deliver it cheaply anywhere en route, if it helps!

I expect this has sold by now, but would you mind posting about how you fitted the internal tailgate release?

I’ve just picked up an 09 xc90 and it hasn’t got the internal lever part number 8652552, it seems pretty rare in the UK and all the sellers on eBay are looking crazy money for it, I’m wondering did you use that part or some other solution?

Ive seen boot release solenoids available which are switch operated and I’d consider that but would prefer a more factory solution if possible.

Sorry, it sold a couple of months ago and I forgot to update it here.

The internal boot release - I bought a used genuine one from Lithuania on eBay, seems in some markets it was fitted as standard. I think American markets require it on all cars too. Worth noting that you also need the latch itself from a car with the internal release as there's an extra cable that goes into an extra lever which my original latch didn't have.

Happy to make some curtain mounts if interested, they're unobtrusive, and attach high up on the B pillar. A cut down broom handle slots straight on and sits securely, so you shut off the light and heat from the front cabin.

I also still have the bed base here which I'll put up for sale in a few weeks as the weather improves, but it's available now.
