Default V70 trip computer and clock not working

Hi folks

Finally got a Volvo a few days ago, a 2002 V70 D5 S estate, and a few issues are beginning to emerge.

First off, I can't reset the trip computer and the clock can't be set. I can hear the click when pushing the tip computer knob in, and the clock knob also moves left and right, but currently displays just dashes --:--. I had initially disconnected the negative battery terminal (following the recommended procedures etc) thinking it would help, but it's had no effect.

Any ideas? Could it be related to the SRS Airbag Urgent Service message that I also need to fix - when I bought the car I was told it had been checked out (car has FSH) and the airbags were fine and to ignore the message.

Thanks

David

Hold the reset button for 2-3 seconds - don't just press it, it's intended to guard against accidental presses

The SRS airbag message can be caused by the battery being pulled incorrectly - and can be reset if you can find a friendly dealer/garage OR someone local with a PPC (post your location and ask!)

As for the clock - no idea! (although again, are you holding it left/right for a couple of seconds - mine does nothing until it's been held for a coupla secs)

Thanks for the suggestions

I was sure I was holding the knobs down for a good few seconds, but will have another go once it stops raining...

Cheers

the clock adjust works instantly as soon as you turn the knob left or right no need to press it .. All your symptoms including the SRS light point towards an internal fault with the instrument panel itself ...

As I thought, it seems there is something wrong with the panel.

Had another search for instrument panel faults and repairs and am now deciding on a course of action...

I don't live anywhere near a Volvo dealer/specialist, and anyway, it would require an overnight stay and ferry trip(!) so wondering about getting a code reader so I can pinpoint errors and maybe post things off to specialists or get a local garage to replace parts.

I already have one of those OBDII to usb connectors, which I've used on previous VWs and Alfas. Can I use this with suitable software - if so, what software is recommended?

Thanks

Had the panel out, and unsurprisingly there's a couple of stickers on the back from BBA Reman saying warranty void if removed! If I'm lucky I can ring them and see whether it's still under warranty...wish me luck!

Thought I would post an update...

BBA-Reman agreed to inspect it under their warranty, as it was only 'fixed' in March.

It arrived back today, and the clock function and trip meters work as they should. Just the usual SRS Airbag reset message, but I've got a code reader on order to reset that message (I did disconnect battery and leave it for a while before installing the panel, but the message appears).

Interestingly, my mileage is down 10,000 miles from before - any ideas? Not that I'm complaining...
