I'm going to get on the phone to Volvo customer service in the morning, and probably submit a report to the DVSA.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I just bought a used XC90 and had a very similar unintended acceleration problem on a 2009 D5.

Did this ever get resolved?

Mine did this once in stop/start traffic - it was related to a DPF regen. Was a bit alarming, trying to push me across an intersection, but the brakes held OK, and and it must have regen'd enough that an off-on cycle meant it drove normally from then on.

This is nothing to do with regeneration its oil burning in the combustion chamber adding power to the engine ... maybe due to high oil level or internal turbocharger leakage perhaps ..

What is your driving style at the point of issue? Easy driving or hard driving?

If it's fugitive oil in the combustion chamber, switching it off won't stop the engine. Or at least it won't stop cleanly.
My oil/turbo were both fine. This was fairly clearly the engine management system running at a fixed rpm/load.
In any case, it happened once 20,000 km and two years ago, and never again.

At the beginning you noticed the engine service message appeared - did the dealer read the fault codes - am wondering if a possible cause might be an issue with the fuel pressure so on occasions too much fuel is being injected i.e. as the amount of fuel injected is dependent on time injector open at a specific fuel pressure, if fuel pressure not steady then possible the fuel injected is out of tolerance?
