Based on the information provided I think the advice to scrap the vehicle is probably sound. However, it is worth remembering that years ago insurance companies were much more inclined to undertake extensive structural repairs rather than write a vehicle off.
In about 1990 another motorist’s insurer funded repairs to my Vauxhall to the tune of about £2,500 when the car was worth no more than £3,000. Because it was repaired by the insurers it went back on the road with the same log book and even the same MOT. The repair involved straightening the chassis and a number of new panels. I always took the view that about half the car was actually new following the repair. I ran it (and it ran well) for another nine years and it stayed on the road even longer. At the end of the day the new Cat S is repairable. Just not economically so in the eyes of the insurer. These two links may help with some definitive information https://www.gov.uk/scrapped-and-writ...ance-writeoffs http://www.iaea-online.org/media/con...ember-2017.pdf I suggest the OP ensures the DVLA has been notified and follows the correct procedure for obtaining a new log book for the vehicle he still owns. This will avoid the risk of a DVLA fine. |
