Default Central Locking Issues/Alarm - Alarm system service required

Hi Everyone,

I will keep this as brief as possible but still try and give as much info as I can,

My car is a Volvo s40 2010 MY with the D4 177PS engine,

Everything was working fine up until Monday when my car went into a garage for its annual service. up on collection I went to the car checked it over externally ect all good got into the car (doors were open) and drove home, got home locked the car everything ok, went out to the car around 1 hr later and the fob wouldn't work I needed to use the emergency key to open. I then drove to where I was needing to go got out the car pressed the lock button and everything worked as it should, I then opened it with the button on the remote and closed it several times. All operated correctly, returned to the car 1/2 hr later and it unlocked and locked again no fault, drove home and locked /unlocked/locked all ok.

The next day 1st thing in the morning the fob would not work again so emergency key time again, drove to my work and on arrival tested the key fob and all worked again. After around 2 hours I went to my car and tried the fob and all was working. when I went to my car later in the day around another 2 hours (4 in total) in would not work.

Now the fob does not seem to work at all and on the dash it says alarm system service required.

I see a few threads relating to older model years cars but not much relating to this model year.

Any help would be appreciated.

Have you spoken to the garage to see what their suggestion is? Whilst it could be totally unrelated to being serviced, the problem has become apparent after it spent time with them.

Hi Simon,

I spoke with the garage the same day and they said that they would not have been near anything to cause the problem, the recommended changing the battery in the remote but as it is doing the same with the other remote I have discounted this.

After a further month of this trying to work out some sort of frequency when it does it - the only thing that seems consistent now is when the car goes on a longer run (over 20 minutes) you arrive at the destination and it locks via the remote, return to the car after 10/15 minutes and you need to use the emergency key.

Does this year of car have the rechargeable battery in the siren?? would this cause the central locking issues?
