OK, shouldn’t joke, but speed's not the only factor, there’s awareness, anticipation, road conditions, weather, etc, etc.
It’s a fair assumption. He could stop putting other people’s life at risk and slow down.

I did chuckle when they announced that they would ban sales of new diesel and petrol models in 2040. What they did not announce was any concrete strategy to get us there, and they have already conceded that petrol/diesel and electric hybrid models will still be allowable, which most makers including Volvo have voluntarily committed to moving to much sooner.

Self driving cars will never happen as it's being portrayed - i.e. you get in and watch TV whilst the car takes you from A to B. It's like nuclear fusion power stations - 50 years ago they were going to be everything, and based on what we knew then it seemed eminently possible..... but..... it was bollurks.

Or the drive could have stopped and had a pint, he would then have arrived too late to hit the child....

Knowing Mr Swiss from his posts, and his habitual behavior towards compliance, it's clear to me that his original post was somewhat "tongue in cheek" as he reflects on his driving...

You got it... I'm pretty mad at myself for what happened... I sped up slightly to get safely ahead of a car so I could merge into his lane... and exactly at that location there was a speed camera and I got flashed.

I was probably doing 58 to 60 kmph in a 50kmph zone, which is hopefully an old camera with 5kmph tolerance deduction so that leaves 3 to 5 kmph over the limit and thus only a 32 GBP fine. If I am 1 kmph higher it doubles to a 64 GBP fine.

But still annoyed at myself as I normally drive carefully.

Mind you it was a bad day with a mountain bike crash on gravel as well leaving a few large grazes... ouch

You could buy a Volvo with Intellisafe or whatever they call it. It recognizes speed limits and won't let you exceed it. The downside is that if you're doing, say 50 mph and it sees a 30 limit it brakes and you risk being tail gated

Feel for you SwissXC90 - it will happen to us all at some point or other; I totally agree with the concept of speed cameras but as has been discussed everywhere it is how they are used which is the problem.

I must admit my general speed has come down over the years but this could be age!!
