Hi, mine was so noisy that I was concerned it would wear the serpentine belt as with the noise it must create additional and unusual resistance. You will see on this forum the damage that can be caused by a failed serpentine belt.
Now the old pump is sitting in the garage and although the clutch freewheels fine, when you operate the pump manually it feels very stiff and lumpy. Mine made this noise for a year, but I changed because of the noise and the threat that it might wear the serpentine belt unduly. Strangely, a couple of weeks earlier my Indif had to replace a seized air con pump that had shredded the belt. I don't want to seem alarmist, just my view. Hope it helps |

Out of interest how much did it cost you to replace the aircon pump ?

Hi, if I remember if was just a little over £200. Again it was a new nissens pump and came with deals etc.
It may well be worthwhile checking the cost of a genuine Volvo part as I hear sometimes you can get genuine parts at a similar price. Genuine Volvo is always best choice in my view. Incidentally, still running fine and very cool! John l |

Thanks - that seems cheap. Was that for the pump (condenser) and fitting ?

It was parts only. The unit needed fitting and re-gas. It has to be done with a garage with the recovery procedure for the old refrigerant.
My indie did mine land labour cost about £100 and re-gas £40 if I remember Hope this helps. John l |
