Default 2010 C30 2.0D Engine System Service Required

Little help needed. So today when driving down a dual carriageway from work like normal when the engine hit around 2,300 revs (in any gear) the 'engine system service required' message came up and instantly it felt like I had a limiter on the car, I could put my foot down and it would slowly creep up but nothing compared to how it should be. Almost like it's lots it's guts after the 2.3k mark. Then after a short whole it cleared itself and then as soon as I went to accelerate to test it out, the same scenario happened, very responsive until it hit the 2.3k mark then gutless. It did this a total of 6 times driving home from work. I know this could potentially be anything but was wondering if anyone had anything very similar happen. I was gonna plug in my code reader but after sorting my stuff out after having a big clear out can't find it. The car itself has only done just shy of 79k miles and whilst all this was happening it wasn't smoking, there was no nasty bangs, knocks or rattles so was just a bit confusing really. Any help is appreciated.
