Most modern cars have crash impact detectors (Part of the air bag system) that kill the ignition and it's rare for a light or other direct wired system to cause a spark when shorted in a crash (The fuse blows), so the two main ignition sources are the main battery and starter motor cables, if you exclude one of the occupants smoking.
In terms of rescuing muppets from crashed petrol cars, always carry a glass hammer and seat belt cutter, or sharp scissors.
Volvo doors are real good and nearly always open after a crash, but if you are trying to rescue folks from a car where the doors won't open or are blocked, smash the glass with the spiked hammer, kick it out (I use a Maglight with a spike on the end in the US), cut the belt if you can't reach the release, then prepare to pull out the victim if you can smell petrol etc. Kill the ignition if possible and make sure no rubber necker walks up whilst smoking. Make sure no other cars nearby have their engines running if there is a petrol leak etc.
