Default Flat battery - gaining access

The other day I suffered a flat battery. Of course, this meant I could not unlock the car using the remote. This, in turn, meant that I could not unlock the tailgate to get at the battery. Tried 'jump starting' using the contacts under the bonnet (and a friends V70) but could not get any sign of life. Eventually retrieved the battery (to recharge) by climbing through from the drivers door.

Am I missing something - is there any way to unlock the tailgate without power, and why couldn't I get a peep out of it when using the jump leads ??

Thanks.

Surely your ignition key will unlock the car with or wthout battery power.

Yes, the drivers door - but the tailgate doesn't have a keyhole ! You can't even open it from the inside.

Does the v70 not have the little flipdown cap for the boot key?

Simon,

I raised this issue some time ago. Another problem will occur when the tailgate central locking fails. We then be unable to manually lock the tailgate. Seems like a backward step to me.

Isnt there a positive terminal under the bonnet? Its there for jump starting, but can be used to charge the battery.

Classic models certainly do, although mine's got some sort of grommit thing in it, but perhaps the new shape V70 doesn't have this.
