Default RE: Speed pulse

Jim,

That diagram you e-mailed me was a mega help indeed. Without it I would never have found the speed pulse output in a million years. It was hidden by a piece of plastic which I had to break out of the rear of the instrument cluster.

Just one question though - there are two connections there, both of which are shown on the diagram. Are they both 12 pulse or is one 12 and the other 48? The diagram said "see illustration" next to the comment re 12 pulse output and had an arrow pointing to both outputs. I wasn't sure if one or both were 12 pulse so I went with instinct. I figured the 12 pulse would be to upper one so connected that.

FIngers crossed I got it right.

Anyway, this evening I have spent my time wiring up the speed pulse up and routing the wire to the area behind the stereo area. I have also tapped into the reverse lights and routed through to the front (yes, I couldn't believe it requires a reverse gear signal but for some reason it does!) - again behind the stereo area.

I couldn't decide where to fit the GPS receiver and figured that fitting under the dash could affect the signal. I then considered fitting it on the dash but decided against that too. I had also considered routing it externally to the area just in front of the windscreen in the air vent area. However, I don't know how durable these things are so eventually decided that while I'm routing the wire connected to the reverse lights I may as well do the GPS wire at the same time.

So, the GPS receiver is located in the rear window, on top of the third brake light. I just hope it can receive a signal through the glass without interference from the heated screen (I hadn't taken that into account at the time).

Tomorrow I've just got to wire the head unit into place. I would have done that this evening too but the ISO adaptor I have at the moment has three blank spaces - one of which is required for the speed pulse and another for the reverse signal. The third is for a telephone mute but I ain't going to connect that because if a call comes in the system will mute and directions won't be advised.

Anyway, sorry about the essay. I just thought it may be useful to anyone reading who may need to refer to it in the future if they fit Sat Nav. I'll post an update when it's all fitted and (hopefully) working.

Regards

Andy

Andy

The way I read the diagram is that both terminals are the same , 12 pulse as they are marked as accessory terminals?? I could be wrong.
The reverse light connection is not really required for navigation, it triggers an optional rear view camera!! I toyed with the idea of fitting my gps receiver below the glass sunroof, but it was a bit tricky so settled for the dash. There are usually 5 'live' satellites out of about 8-10 visible ones, but only 3 are needed for a 'fix'. I expect you know that there are about 22 in total, criss-crossing in various orbits, not geostationary like Sky etc.

I look forward to following your project! Good luck

Jim

PS just saw your other post re. trip computer, you can fit one from a scrappie, but it wont work as far as I know without a software dowload from Sweden via Vadis, The dealers charge £150-£200 for that the last I heard!!

Cheers Jim,

SO it works on the dash then. Well here's hoping that it works on the rear shelf too.

I had kind of hoped that both outputs were 12 pulse ones so that there was no chance of me getting the wrong one. They also appear to be joined to fingers crossed.

Re the trip comp - £200 for a VADIS download. They can jump. Is the download required on a 10 year old car? I knew they were computer controlled but not to that extent!

I know that modern Volvo's require downloads for *everything*, even retro fit fog lights and stuff - absurd.

Regards

Andy
