T5 engines
What engine should I have?
850 T5 auto. B5234T, B5234FT or B5234T5? Handbook says B5234T5 (ie auto, T4 being manual). Sticker on engine says B5234T, which is a differet spec in the handbook. Then there is also the FT variant. Anyone with an idea please, or can explain the difference, if there is one?

RE: T5 engines
No, it's the original.
Vovlo UK can't explain the differences, but they claim the B5234T is the T5 engine, but if so what are the T4 & T5 variants?

RE: T5 engines
Hi, the 5 stands for the number of cylinders, the 23 is the engine capacity in litres, the 4 the number of valves per cylinder and the T stands for turbo. The classic '98 manual V70 T5 has a B5234T3 engine and the V70R manual has the B5234T4. The 850R has an upgraded engine with stronger con rods - this engine was put into the '97 V70 T5 and R. I hope someone can give some more info on your 850 T5!
Engine Types and Codes B5234T: 1994-1995 T5 B5234T: 1996 T5 B5234T4: 1996 850R B5234T4: 1997-1998 V70R Manual B5234T3: 1997-1998 T5 Manual B5234T3: 1999-2000 T5 Manual If anybody spots a mistake or can add to the list please let me know :)

RE: T5 engines
B5234T5 is in the 850R model I believe.
B5234T or B5234FT (same engine) is the standard 850T5 engine 225BHP. |

RE: T5 engines
I think that the F in FT was for 'Federal' and signified that a cat was fitted??

RE: T5 engines
if you have a poke around the engine , you might be able to see the end bit ie T3, T4 etc . it corresponds to some different internals , bearings etc .

RE: T5 engines
Chris has got it right. The T4/T5 suffixes relate to the 850R manual and auto variants.
It would appear that the FT and T variants are the same and are the 850 T5 engines. Thanks to everyone for their help.
