2002 MY S60 Factory Bi-Fuel
The above car has developed a smell of gas, but only when cold, definitely a leak but as its only when cold that makes it hard to find. What changes between warm and cold? From when it switches over to gas from cold start up for about 2 - 3 minutes, doesn't happen if I switch from petrol to gas while driving ect, only when the engine is stone cold, after 4 -5 hrs sitting idle. Is there a particular hose or anything I could check?

Most likely the smell of unburnt fuel due to mixture control problems.
If the stepper is sticking when cold and not fueling correctly then the unburnt fuel as a result will give the gas smell. |

Would this also cause cutting out when switching to gas when cold and hard starting when warm?

It will cause cutting out when cold. The hard starting can also be connected to the same issue.

Would the injectors from the S60 you're breaking fit mine? Its a 2.4 20v. Or do you think a good injector cleaner would cure the fault? I'm only noticing the smell of gas since I serviced the car and replaced the gas filter, but I'm confident that whatever pipes I disturbed are not leaking and confused by the fact its only when cold.

Have you found the petrol injectors are leaking?
I do have a few different sets of injectors so if you have some details off them I might have something. |

I'm only basing it on the symptoms, it seems to be going through more petrol recently, as in I used to go up to 4 months between petrol fills now it struggles to 2 months, its also using more gas, it used to easily do 200 miles to a tank, usually 250, now the light comes on at around 160 miles, it drives to me like its being over fuelled and when it cuts out its very hard to restart, as if its flooded. What details do you need from the injectors? Is there any test I can do? The car has 220k on it, so worn injectors wouldn't surprise me. When its sat for about an hour after being driven and warmed up, its hard to start, as if its either building fuel pressure or "clearing" excess fuel from cylinders, almost like the lawnmower syndrome the 850 2.0 20v had

The injectors are known to give problems with leaking. Before going to the extent of swapping the injectors I would try some injector cleaner in the petrol system first. This one works very well http://www.forteuk.co.uk/product.php...jector_Cleaner
If you can see what colour the injectors are would be a good start to working out which ones you have. I would also give the LPG distributor a flush, no need to take it apart you can just put some of this in the pipe and run it through. It is also worth checking that the vapouriser is not leaking gas from the vacuum connection. |
