Default S40 Missing features

Picked up a 2009 volvo s40 r design sport today. Few gadgets that are missing which even my 04 pug had is disappointing.

Granted I did a few retrofits with my 307, I wonder if we can do the same on the s40.

Can we retrofit a trip computer or is the electronics not in place. On the 307 we simply got the end of the stalk with the button then used the clone dealer tool to turn it on...

No auto dimming mirror, 307 was easy to do. On my s40 it has the black conduit between the mirror and the roof console, why is this here if no wires are needed to pass through...

Dimming rear view is plug and play.

Trip is nothing but a software update from dealer (although expensive) and maybe a lft stalk with scroller if you've not got one already.

Cruise if you've not got it is easy retrofit, you need only steering wheel button block and a software update. All other parts exist on the car already (clutch/brake switch etc..).

HTH,

Yeah have got cruise, it's working ok. Seen a auto dim rear view on eBay for 30 so will get that.

Can't find trip computer stalk though..

I moved to my S40 from a Peugeot 406 executive and was disappointed at the lack of things like:

Footrest next to the clutch.
Electric Folding wing mirrors.
Heated seats.
Sun blinds.
Armrests.
Electric seats.
Oil level gauge.

I think it's just the difference between French cars having lots of 'free' kit to tempt buyers and 'premium' brands making you pay more for it.

Cant really compare a Peugeot to a Volvo in terms of quality though.

I know, it's a shame everyone sees Peugeot like this as their cars are usually a joy to drive and have some nice touches here and there. Sure they never quite seem to have that high end feel but they're mechanically very tough and overall reliable (no worse than most anyway).

Everyone thinks VW/Audi and BMW's are best but they seem very troublesome to me with hearing all kinds of horror stories.

My Volvo has been extremely good all round so I'm happy.

I'm very happy with my s40 but I agree you get a lot of kit in the Peugeot. Like this is a 2009 volvo, r design model, the top of the range spec and it is lacking an electric mirror, trip computer and heated seats.

One other thing that bugs me is even though the r design has lovely blue dials, they have got green lights for the dash. Why green LEDs in a blue dash, obviously it should be white or blue LEDs

The r design is not top spec, other than a nice bit of trim it's low end spec wise.

The r design is as specced as the original owner specced it at point of order. My folks have a r design s40 on a 58plate with trip computer, xenons, light washers, anti dazzle rear view, heated seats and dynaudio. All this was paid for when it was ordered by the original owner, so they can be a high spec if the first owner had deep pockets.
