Default 2001xc70 unknown oil leak and cutting out

I have a 2001 2.4 xc70 with 125000 miles.

I recently had to have the Vvt pulley timing belt cam seals replaced after major oil leak.

However seem to have what appears to be new oil leaking from somewhere about the oil filter and onto sump.

More worryingly is when slowing down ie approaching roundabout the car stalls as it tries to select lower gear..:. Is my auto on the way out?? Help please

Is that engine oil or ATF? It looks a reddish colour to me.

Hi rubbed it down and it appears to be oil. I took the dipstick out of the transmission box and also cleaned it with a rag. There was certainly a different colour between them. I don't know if it is that the oil looks so clean as it was only replaced very recently. Thanks Andy

Atf is very obviously red even when it gets a bit old and tired, check the oilfilter cartridge cover seal ,and that there is not a hairline crack in the cover, they can be cracked fairly easily when removing or replacing .

What state is the PCV in, well worth a good look if it's leaking oil and you have already had to change cam seals, I would also take the ETM off and give it a good clean out with a rag soaked in carb cleaner, if it's sticking it could be causing the stalling - Mike

Evening thanks for the replies, update as follows.

Oil leak - a couple of bolts were missing at the front of the pcv and the lower tube on the dipstick was not straight allowing oil out. Both sorted, no oil leaks.

ETM - appears that it is the etm. Garage took it off today, cleaned it but still having same symptoms. Local volvo dealer want £380 to supply and fit a new one. Had a look at the threads re repair and this might be a cheaper option. Just one question, would the software need reloaded onto the repaired one.....they want £70 for that!

A repaired ETM will retain its original software ...the £70 isnt for the software that is 50 p , it is for 20 minutes labour + vat of course . what kind of price would you like to pay ?
