New battery
I know this may well have been covered before, but, what is the best lead acid battery to buy for my 949 23/ti, anyone know what was the original by volvo.
I understand that calcium batteries are not really suitable. David. |

The genuine article from Volvo is often competitively priced, particularly if your local dealer will offer a VOC discount. They have a good reputation for durability too.

I believe the general consensus is to use a Halfords 096.

My lead acid battery surely has to go shortly within the next year or so and I see the available suppliers for lead acid batteries all moving away to the newer calcium type.
There was a post on here a short while back that Lucas still supplied lead acid batteries but that has now changed if you look on their appropriate website. Not knowing about these technical things I am starting to wonder if the answer might be to change the alternator or the associated regulator pack to increase the output to cope with the new style batteries. No doubt Dave will have something interesting to say on the subject and I look forward to seeing his comments. Bob Last edited by bob12; Dec 10th, 2021 at 20:30. |

Hi Luke, just looked at Halfords web page, entered my reg number and it says 096, not suitable for my car, the last one I got from Halfords was a HB013, thats whats on the car now but no longer holds a charge, despite being regular put on my trickle charger, and the warranty onnit has run out. David.

Edit: I've just looked at the image of it on the website, the terminals are the correct way around and it certainly doesn't look too big to fit. I have a feeling it was an 096 battery on the red drift 940 I broke. Last edited by 360beast; Dec 10th, 2021 at 20:28. |

Unfortunately, as suggested above, even my local Halfruds say they can no longer supply either the 096 or 100 lead acid battery. Hence my post as to what is the solution as I don't see the matter getting any better even if you can currently still find a suitable lead acid locally.
