OS quarterlight and door tops
Hello Volvo peeps.
As my OS quarterlight is shagged and won't \ never did seal properly I'm after a working one with glass in place that locks correctly. The NS is fine. Can you get the window seals from Brookhouse? *looks in classicswede's direction* Also, I'd like some early door tops where the dash blacktop continues on to the door trim. The door tops have to be 4dr (don't think there was choice at that point in time) and have to be a close to 80 Grey in colour as poss. Or the tops can be separate, but would prefer the first option. If there's anything in my hilariously unpopular list of chod listed on pg 2 or 3, let me know if there's anything that can be done swappage wise.

You can buy the seals from new from BH but they are very hard to fit as they are rivited in with special rivits. I'm not sure what the state of the ones on the 122s are but there is a chance they are ok.
As to the door top there is only one side on that car as th other is missing. (passenger side is still there from memory) |

Jon, you'll have to find someone breaking a B16 for the dash extensions. I expect you know that anyway. They were a neat feature, probably just economics stopped them carrying it over with the B18 models. The rear door opening quarter lights went too.

Regarding dash pad extensions:
The 1957-1962 models all have this feature - since the 2 door sedan was introduced in 1962 - you're chances are a bit more difficult to find a direct easy fix. (All though there's no differences in the metal-cap (?) between those with and those without the polster - so you can just fix a set of polster and chrome trim to your existing door-metal-panel) A hole other problem is, that the dash pad differs a lot! - between those with and those without extensions. Basicly, the pad for extensions have a "sharp" end towards the doors - so that the continuing pad on the doors are close and "unified" with the dash pad. I hope my english can explain it! So, your existing pad (if original) is rounded off at the end - and it WILL (trust me!) look pretty stupid if you do not change it too.. - you should juuuust get the idea of what I mean with these pictures.. notice the rounded off later dash pad.

*Did not realise that the dashtops changed*
My car has a 123GT dashtop, so will have rounded off corners. Hmm Dai I may take a butchers at the one you have to see if I can get a modified one made in fibreglass. If you can have a look for that other set you might have then that would help a lot. Also good news on the quarterlight. I really need to come down and see you Dai.

I've got a set of the dash extentions that I might be willing to part with. I will have to hold them up next to the dash in my car ('65) to see if there is a gap between them and the true dash. I have seen later cars with the earlier extention and it doesn't ring a bell as there being a gap there. I will also check and see if the metal cap on a two door is the same as the metal cap on a four door. If they are not, it's only three little mounting holes to mount the extention to the metal cap. I will try to get some photos tonight and post them up for all to see.

Hi. I have a pair of door caps with the padded extensions from a 1962 four door. The colour is a very light grey/ white colour. May part with them if the right pound notes float by

Attached are a few photos of the set of dash extentions I have.... They are in really good shape but not perfect. I simply wiped the dust off them before taking photos.
The last couple of photos show that a four door (the ones in red w/ extentions) are NOT the same length as a two door metal cap. The dash pad in that car is a standard one (replacement purchased about 8 years ago from IPD). The gap isn't noticable. I don't know about the 123gt dash pads and if they really have a more rounded corner. I'm sure they would line up better that the photos show as I was trying hold the metal top and take a photo with the other hand. The very last photo shows the back of an extention. The chrome strip is held on differently than the black padded portion of this set up. But if you wanted to mount these to a set of two door metal tops, it would require drilling some holes in the metal top. Let me know your thoughts... Amazondean- I have never seen a set of white/grey ones. Please post up a photo... Last edited by agent_strangelove; Apr 24th, 2009 at 17:20. Reason: More info... |
