Default Immobilizer, no crank no start

My V40 will not start. When I turn the key to position 2 the red light on the left speaker flashes rapidly for about 15 seconds. When I then turn the key to position 3, all dash lights go out.

Any ideas how to fix this? Here is a youtube video of the problem.

Could the battery be dead? or the earth contract strip rotted through?
the lights shouldnt go out.... seems like its a failure of electrical supply

Or possibly a failed system master relay?

Yes I'd agree with DXMachina on the electrical fault. I'd check plugs around ignition area too. Give things a waggle whilst in ignition 3 position and see if any dash lights come on.

It is probably lack of a power supply to Immobiliser and ignition switch , The feed comes from the fuse box under the bonnet , down and under and across the beam under the radiator , back up and into the car near the bonnet pull . I would open up the loom under the radiator and check for swelling in any of the wires and make a repair .. It does happen , water can get in the loom and corrode the wires , they turn into white powder .
That is if you cant measure any voltage on any of the immobiliser pins or ignition switch ..

Check the 2 earth points from the battery to the gearbox and to the chassis under the battery tray. If they are fine, I would also tend to agree with the people above, that it may be the loom under the radiator. Had exactly the same symptoms with a GDI a few months ago and 4-5 cables in the loom under the radiator were completely corroded and broken

Hello DXmachina, can you tell me where I can locate the system master relay? I have tested the battery leads, they are ok.
