A 460 we used to B20F would do an indicated 135 maybe a bit more in std trim. It would take a lot more to make a auto do the same + would the box take the power????

hi people! first thing thanks to the guy who replied with speedos not being true at high speeds. secondly i no nothing about customising cars so i guess it will proberly look like a "teenagers custom job" im 42yrs young and have had a few cars in my time but never got in to modding in any way, although i do remember having a 3.5ltr wedge shape rover which was very fast, but it never made me yell whaaaa hooo! like the volvo does when accelerating! and i have been honest with the first posting i made. the speedo needle sweeps around consistantly to 140 and then carrys on at a slower pace. i really would like to find out what its true top speed is and the bhp but im having a job to find anybody who can help in my cambridgeshire area. i would be prepared to traval 100 radius if any of you guys know of anywhere.

A lot of people here use Power Engineering in Uxbridge for dyno work. If you tag along to a Volvo dyno day there, you ought to be able to get a power pull for about £30. I'd be interested to see what your car makes on the rollers.

cheers

I do hope it is dyno'd - I'd love to see the results!

I am fortunate in having the chance to drive a good range of cars on derestricted section of German Autobahn

I have hit the limiter in a E320, hit 151mph in a V6 Vectra - clearing 6000rpm in 5th gear - while being overtaken by a Merc and a Porsche!!

I have maxed out a number of cars (hitting the point where the car will not get any faster - with or without hill assist). The speeds below are speedo speeds so I have no idea how accurate they are:

Vauxhall Vectra V6 - 151mph
Alfa Romeo 156 2.0Ts - 142mph
Volvo 740 GL B200E - 115mph
VW Passat TDi 130 - 136mph
VW Golf TDi - 128mph
BMW Z3 2.2 - 143mph
Ford Focus 1.8i - 127mph
Ford Focus 1.8 TDCi - 129mph

The diesels are all great around 90-110mph - but then die a death as they have no top end at all as they approach the upper reaches of their capabilities. These numbers are not just typed for the hell of it - most of them were recorded on the motorways between Luxembourg and Saarbrucken and Saarbrucken to Frankfurt.

Watching the on-board computer in the Vectra was rather alarming!!!

I don't know about all these power claims. A 2.0i 440 could possibly push 125-127mph max-any higher on a standard lump, i wouldn't have thought so. A Turbo, possibly 135mph at a push-but the 2.0i being 110hp and the 1.7 Turbo being 122hp (ish), i wouldn't think the 2.0i could hit 140mph. The 440's hardly the most aerodynamic or light car either...

Again, not being negative but that sounds like an awful lot of power for a standard lump. Prove me wrong, i'm never too stubborn to learn!
