Inbetween Volvo's...

I just don't get it.
I had a 1.7i 440 about 6 years ago now-it was nippy. I had the 2.0i-no way would that do near on 130+ mph. I now have a re-mapped 480 Turbo, and that will reach those sorts of speed with ease-had it touching the end of the speedo at a track day, and it had a little more in it too. I know somebody had one rolling roaded-175hp at the flywheel, 147 at the wheels. I have to say, i don't believe any of these claims. If these engines were capable of doing these speeds in standard form, why would Volvo bothered making so many varients? And why wouldn't mine do it with a FSH and only 68k on the clock? (My 440-i think the most that done ever was 115...or was it 119-and that was pushing it to it's limit). All you need to prove it is a friend with a video phone and a data cable. Or get it rolling roaded! I have no qualms in being proved wrong!

well lets kill threadf once and for all my 440 turbo chipped s/s exhaust k and n bleed valve dump valve more cold air feeds than an air con house and from a rolling 20 mph start kept well with a newish scoobie till 65 then he started to pull clear at 110 car shook the stereo out its holder boost gauge was still in yellow 4500 rpm got to 125 just over 5,000 rpm not much more left if you ask me due to the hideous areodynamichs of the front end On a roaling road it will go faster as its not meeting any resistance dont you think so my 125 on the run will probably translate to more on the rolling road perhaps even the legendry 150!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! oh 128,000 on clock g reg

I've had countless 440's and 480's in the past 3 years.
B18U 1.8 440 Single point injection 120 and the steering wheel vibrated so much I thought I was going to get white knuckle. B18E 1721cc 480 Completely neglected and a bit of a shed 115 felt restrained and as though it SHOULD do more B20F 1998cc 480 In various conditions (4 different 480s) from pampered to completely neglected. Age and milage seemed irrelevant as top speeds varied so much from vehicle to vehicle and even day to day. As little as 115 to as high as an indicated 140 on the speedo. One thing is for sure, an auto standard B20F will not take any form of Volvo above an indicated 140 without massive modifications! |

It would be very presumptious as there has been no mention of public roads...
These could have taken place on track days, on unrestricted roads in Germany or on private roads! |

Well, i have to say, i'm sorry. I still think alot of these claims are..well, dubious. I certainly don't think 140 is possible in a 2.0i...the 1.7 Turbo won't even do that in standard form. I think some claims are starting to boil down to wishful thinking...
Doesn't mean i don't believe all, but some just wreak of a fresh farmers field...
