Default 480 Alarm problem

Hi,

The volvo alarm on my 480ES goes off for no apparent reason, any ideas ??

Is it possible to disable this alarm without incurring other problems ?

All your thoughts are welcome.

Thanks
Steve

PS. Please help before I swap it for an MGB GT.

Really depends on whether or not it is factory fitted (depends on your year and model of car) or an aftermarket one. Could be a wiring fault which has developed or maybe a low battery. My old alarm would sound when the battery was about to 'die'.
Best thing to do is to get someone you know who has some electronic/electrical knowledge to have a look at it for you. If you can see where the power is fed to the siren or the control box, then simply disconnecting the live wire(assuming the feed does not lead to any other device) should solve the problem short term.

If it's the factory key operated system, then make sure you are very positive with unlocking the door. A quick "flick" with the key will unlock the door without disabling the alarm.

We had problems when central locking from the passenger side looked like it unlocked the drivers side but as soon as you pulled on the handle the alarm went off.
