Default 3 months on and 3k miles added

Now had the car 3 months and have travelled approx 3k miles in it. Average fuel consumption 50 mpg. I have had as much as 54mpg on a long journey keeping at a steady 70mph. Really pleased with the car, looks like a lot of car for the relatively little price price I paid for it.

It's not a criticism as it was my choice to opt for the 2.0 D unit, but you do feel that there isn't quite enough grunt in 1st and 2nd. Pulls fine in 3rd, 4th and 5th from low range revs. Verdict - love it and can live with the engine (it doesn't spend long in those gears anyway).

Glad your liking the car. Looks like you'll soon be eligible for a high mileage badge at this save. Keep up all updated on how you get on with it please.

Default Happy motorist

Certainly will keep you updated but I think it'll be a long time before I reach the dizzy heights of high mileage Volvo owners, only just got 120000 on it and its not quite 4 years old yet. Runs sweet as a nut (touch wood).

120,000 is good. The bronze award is at 150,000 so your not far off, only 2-3 year away. Mine has just passed 100,000 and doing between 15-20k miles a year I should only be a few years away too.

If I'd have known that there was stickers for achieving a certain mileage, I'd have applied for one before I sold our old P2 S80 with 161K miles on its clock... I purchased it with 122k.

Default Here's one for you

Because the garage I bought the car from had another garage do the pre-delivery service, I now need to get the car serviced again. (Long story but the MIS system is telling me to 'book maintenance time' - i'm guessing the garage didn't reset the service indicator, but just in case I'm having it serviced again).

What oil should I be looking to use. I know that Volvo recommend Castrol 5w30, but is that Fully Synthetic, Low SAPs? Edge or Magnatec.... or does anyone have any alternative suggestions like Mobil or Comma or Shell oils. I have tried to research this but am getting nowhere fast. As the car has a DPF I know I should be using low saps oil but after that I'm up for suggestions.

I intend to get the car serviced yearly, with about 10k per annum useage.

Thanks for your help and suggestions folks.

Can anyone advise me as to whether the 2.4D unit is a reliable unit and can I reasonably expect it to last quite easily to 200k without too much trouble. Does it really return 47mps on a combined cycle?

What are the 2.0D units like for reliability once they have turned 100k miles?

Thanks for your help folks.
Well my V70 has done over 220,000 miles, and still sweet as a nut, it burns a little oil, but nothing to worry about. :-)

Looked at BILIA cars, Sweden and they wanted 12k for an 09 with 159K on the clock, images of the car would not tell milage, looked mint. Must say my new 08 is really tidy for its age. Body superb, only sign of age are the remotes ( buttons a little worn) and ventilated seats (nude colour - weird shade) show some signs of age which might be due to all the holes in the ventilated leather. Guy next door has a 59 xc70 with black leather and seats are like new!. Forgot how well the Volvos wears with age, glad to be back in one again, sooo comfy.

Default S80- 2.0 diesel Turbo problems

Hi Folks

I have just finished talking with a salesman (independant, with nothing to gain) about the Ford/Peugeot 2.0 diesel powertrain units fitted to the S80. He informs me that the turbos on the HDi units are reknowned for failing after approx 5 years or 100000 miles and that when they go it can be expensive both in replacing the Turbo and repairing damage to the engine.

Has anyone experienced any problems with these diesel units and turbos?

It goes without saying that it would be an unnecessary expense at £500+ (good rate). However I don't wantto run the risk of a turbo failure causing untold damage to the engine.

Any helpful info or hints gratefully received.
