Hi
How many miles has your 90 done? I have seen a few around 120k miles that need new steering pumps... including my own. The squeak - is it inside or out? Mine was squeaking at the base of the column, and some white grease lubricant sorted it out a year ago and been fine since. David

XC 90 Steering Column noise
I also had the same problem, my steering failed whilst in a corner, i had to force the steering wheel to turn, then i found ballbearings in the footwell, after hours of reserch there apperas to be a component failiure but Volvo will not admit this, I have had mine replaced at a cost of £946 and now I am chasing volvo for their reply as to why this part should fail after low miles on my well looked after XC 90 V8.
Their reply was not good however I have replied to them as I think there is a recall fault that this should be picked up on and they should absorb the replacement cost, I urge anyone with a XC 90 MK 1 TO RAISE YOUR CONCERN TO VOLVO UK, the same part is also on some XC 90 D5s Your replies would be much appreciated. Hello, i have same problem! I found little bearing balls on my footwell. Steering gets quite stiff before that and sounds like some old rusty axle.
Now i try to find instructions or opinions how easy or bad is this fix by myself. New steering column paids 900-1000€ and assembly work. Cheapest way seems to be find second hand part on the internet, but you never know how long it works. And if try to do at home, is there danger to cause more distruction because there are much wires and other things. It would be nice to hear how you guys had solve this problem. |
