My exec unit had a screw either side at the rear/bottom, and then slid off easily.

This trick was adopted when RSE was fitted too... as the cables run through/under the console.

Had mine off when I did the handbrake. The RSE cables are long enough to allow the thing to be moved out of the way without being disconnected (at least they are on mine!).

All I want to do is remove the cupholder so I can retrieve a dongle from inside the console.
Anyone know if the cupholder can be easily removed?

Have a look at my parrot guide here: http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=107172 which shows how to remove the top part of the center console

If it is just the cup insert then the is a locking clip underneath the holder as you pull it out (on my SE LUX MY09)... if this is pressed up then the whole "tray" is removeable .... to refit just align the slides and gently push back in until resistance is felt then a but more force until the retainer clip re-engages and the tray will now fully push home ....

Hope it helps

Many thanks for this suggestion. I have the same issue in my XC90 D5 Executive. The central console mechanism on the bottom of it is still fine, but the base where the console should be clicking into has one piece missing on the left hand side (see pictures). You suggested to fire in two self tappers. Can you please point out how this would work / where I would be able to fire in those two self tappers? Or is there another way to fix it? I can't find the missing part online unfortunately.

Many thanks in advance.

Best,
Jesse

PS - the rear console on my MY11 exec slides out if I put any pressure on the top and push back...
