Default V70 D5 Geartronic Weight

Hi All,

Was wondering any of you that have a V70 D5 Geartronic on a 2006 plate could tell me the weights from the vin plate? Looking at one but want to know what the MGW is to see whether I need to do my towing test or not for it.

I've looked at a manual one and it's weight was 2160kg which would be ok and an older auto D5 (02 plate) was 2190kg just wondering if the newer ones are any different.

Many thanks in advance for any help appreciated.

Regards,

Ste

Do you mean, the weight of the car? Volvo went completely wrong on this in their owner manuals (they also put wrong information about what power steering fluid to use)

The weight of a P2 S60/V70 is between 1500kg-1650kg depending on the transmission/awd, etc

Thanks for that, it's more the actual max weight it can be on the vin plate. My 02 v70 manual says max weight of 2160kg on the vin plate, v5 has unladen weight of 1657kg but on a weighbridge it showed 1705, not too bothered by the other weights just what the max car can weight from the vin plate.

If that makes sense?

At the moment with my B license (Standard UK car license) I can tow upto a combined max weight of 3500kg, with the towcar needing to be heavier than the laden mass of the trailer.

Currently my v70 d5 weighs at max 2160kg and my caravan is 1300kg max weight so i'm 40kg under the limit, if I had a heavier car i've got to do the B+E license, which is another £600 quid but enables me to have a car weighing 3500kg and tow 3500kg behind it. It came in in 97 I think when there were some test changes.

Reason i'm wanting to know weight of a 2006 V70 d5 geartronic is to see whether I need to do the test or not as the caravan we have at the moment is a big lightweight 6 berth so is great for family. I will be doing the test in the future but wanting to know if I can get away without short term while I gather some more money for the test. Seen a nice V70 D5 Geartronic but seller is uncertain of the weight as it's not on the inner passenger wing, but it will have to be somewhere on the car.

Have a look at this link for more info.

It's the maximum authorised mass (MAM) they go off, not unladen weight isn't it?
I occasionally tow for work, and have a lightweight trailertent I often drag around. Although I've got 'grandfather rights' by being an old git, work gave us trailer training. Was really surprised, but found it extremely valuable, especially the reversing round obstacles and reverse parking a trailer. I'd suggest getting the 'E' license. Don't think you'd regret it.

If you tow a trailer and the combined mass (Gross Train Weight) exceeds 3,500kg and youre getting paid for it, unless you fall into a couple of very precise exemptions, the vehicle is required to have a tachograph fitted and you are required to use a tachograph card. You are also required to retain records of when you drive and when the car was driven in exactly the same way a HGV driver / operations manager is.

What do you tow and what do you use to tow it?

Well i've found out the one i'm looking at is 2180kg so saves me from having to do the towing test just yet.

It was on the drivers rear b pillar

We know, we had to buy transit customs as the preferred vw transporter would have fallen foul of this.
