D4204T14 getting right oil level after oil
New owner of V40 D4 VEA here. Was surprised of lacking regular dipstick. I had previous car Kia and it was very easy to change motor oil, but here with this electronic dipstick does not look like this.
According to the data, my engine requires 5.2L of oil. What way would be optimal from your point of view? 1. Drain oil and replace filter. Fill 4.7L of new oil. (Run for 30 km? - i am scared to do so just to be able to check the oil level) Check Oil level, if it asks to add. Will add by small increments like 100-150 mL until warning goes off. (After each top up another level check again 30 km of driving?) 2. Drain oil into the bucket and measure its volume. Add new oil of the same amount + a bit more (for filter?) What do you think about these methods? Do they make sense? Is it possible that i can get warning about oil level even it is correct? If i use Motul Specific RBS0-2AE 0W-20 instead of Castrol - can this pose any risks? |

You could fit the Police dipstick if it's done for the VEA engine. It just replaces the short grey plastic one at the front with one you can reach easily. I had one fitted to my XC60 D5.

When I change my engine oil I measure what drains out and replace with slightly less and then check on the dipstick and add if needed. If your car has no manual dipstick I would assume it would be easier for you to top up rather than remove. The problems are usually caused when to much oil is added.I think that although Volvo recommend Castrol it not always used so I see no problem.

Does anyone know if 4.7L of oil in engine can cause damage? 5.2L is required for my engine

No I booked it in as a while you wait job. Didn't take long.

Obviously it's worth checking again when cold for a more accurate figure. The difference between the full and fill marks should be listed in the owners handbook. It's 2 liters for my old V40 classic, although that is a bit on the high side for a modern engine.
