Old Volvo Alloys nicked from garden.
Between yesterday evening and this morning's light some evil thieves rummaged through my garden/yard and stole some old 14" and 15" Volvo alloy wheels with knackered tyres on them. Originally from 240s & 740s. More than three and less than seven, which shows how much attention I'd given them over the years.
Location : Haltwhistle, Northumberland. If anyone here has advice about where they will be quickly sold, let me know.

I don't want to state the obvious, 'DR', but it sounds to me like an opportunist theft and the wheels quickly sold as scrap for the price of a quick fix.
I am unfamiliar with Haltwhistle; do you have any known (dodgy(?)) scrap metal dealers locally? Do you live close to a main road; if yes, they could well have been in another part of the country within an hour or two. Frankly, I think you would be extremely fortunate to track them down or see them again. Regards, John.

Around here that's how we recycle large metal objects, leave them in the garden and in less than 24 hours some environmentally conscious people in a tatty white transit will take them to a scrapyard for you, and unlike the council they don't even charge for their service
But seriously, an hour from Newcastle/Gateshead, 45 mins from Carlisle, there's no end of scrapyards they could be in before you even posted, sorry.

As Dave says: My son lives in south Birmingham and the 'normal' practice to dispose of any unwanted items is to put them out in the front garden or by the path. The local diddies are soon along and the whole road is always kept immaculate.
I live in a rural village not far from the M1/M6/A14 junction. A few years ago my neighbour was burgled and had a large amount of expensive hi-fi equipment stolen. One comment the police made was: that as we are close to the motorway network we are in a target area for the 'Scum from Brum'. Apparently they wizz down the motorway, do their deeds and then wizz back.

I only know one scrap dealer, but I may ask them about it tomorrow.
I'm not aiming to get my wheels back by the way, that would be stupid.

Afraid the moral of the story is get them weighed in yourself before some scrotes steals them.
It should not be so but unfortunatly it is, as for getting it investigated, you've no hope. Mind, as Tony Martin found, if you want a rapid police response shoot the burglars. Paul. |

The normalisation of theft from my property absolutely infuriates me! It's private property, they aren't "doing me a favour" by nicking my stuff!
Do'nt encourage this illegal activity. And carriage of waste without a license is a crime. If you're letting them take stuff, you're an accomplice. |

It was and as I understand it he was found guilty because he didnot have a licence for the shotgun, it had been revoked. Had the gun been legal it was self defence all day long.
That begs the question why revoke his licence, can be for many reasons, know a lad whom lost his because of a bout of depresion after a divorce, once he was on depresion medication it was taken away, took him years to get it back and still has to lodge the gun at his gun club, not allowed it in the house, gun safe or no. Know another who can keep the gun but no ammunition at home, his ammo is stored in a neighbours gun cabinet . Of course ilegal guns can be had easily enought if you know the right people, posesion of such is an automatic 10 year sentence if you are caught or shoot a burglar. Paul. |
