Default B5204T5. How good is it?

I have 2004 V70 2.0t has 180hp (B5204T5) Only has 72.000 miles, timing belt done at 54.000miles. I can't find any info on the b5204T5 engine like. Can it handle BSR tune (228 hp).

How reliable is it at around 230-240hp when maintance is kept up with. Is adding intercooler along with full exhaust alright?

No idea sorry on your specific request but back in the day when I biult rally cars as a hobby we tuned it till it went bang then took a step back.
Always accepting they were high maintenance vehicles, standard service once a year was out the window.
Oil change every couple of rallies, a teardown and rebuild every year at least to see how things were and of course there were items you would not reuse once in bits. New mains and big ends, piston rings, possibly valves and seats, possibly pistons. Never reuse big end bolts etc.
This kept them reasonably reliable for competition and light road use. Still saw an engine destroyed when a big end bolt snapped.

Then there was the other bitside of the car now performing way beyond their design criteria. Rear diff rebuilds every 2 rallies were common. All suspention was uprated Bilstien units.hub bearings took a hammering and disks and pads wore quickly, upgraded competition pads.

High maintenance expencive cars, BUT lots of fun if prepared to look after them, a nightmare if you biult and forgot because you would end up on a brakedown truck..

If you appreciate what you are getting into, enjoy.

Paul.

My question is basically how good is the B5204T5 engine, Can't seem to find much about it other then it's 180hp.

I've seen couple of older turbo Volvos 740/760 with more then 300hp on stock motor.

Should be fine with a remap.

2.0T engine has the same 81mm bore as the 2.3 T5 engine, but with a shorter stroke (77mm) and compression ratio of 9.5:1 vs 8.5:1 in the T5.

Those who are super technical will probably advise that the compression ratio limits what you can do on this engine.

No doubt you could always fit T5 pistons or block swap to reduce that compression ratio... I actually wish I'd done that with my previous S60 2.0T as it was a much better car than my current Ford based S40 T5...
