Default Extended Warranty

What do people think about extended warranties.
I've just got a quote from dealer, on a extended warranty, 1 year @ £485. 2 year's @ £895.
Any thoughts and do you think they are worth it?

Just bought a year for my S90. Its insurance, so worth it when you need it. Depends, "are you feeling lucky?"

Though, in my experience, Volvo have contributed significantly to a repair out of warranty (perhaps only a few months or so) - example: had 90% off a replacement alternator on my C70 many years ago. May also depend on having had full dealer service history, and a dealer prepared to work with Volvo to get such a discount.

It's insurance, if you never need it it's money wasted, but, if anything goes wrong it's cheap at twice the price.

Is it a volvo or third party warranty? And is as comprehensive as the 3 year manufacturer warranty?

If you're car has been reliable I wonder if it's worth the money then again if the VCM goes (and it's covered) that's a massive saving.

I suppose worst case if you don't go for it if the car starts playing up just chop it in?

I'm in 2 minds like you.

Car Plan

Looking at the policy, it says not as comprehensive as Volvo 3 year, but it looks fairly good to me.

It really depends on how lucky you're feeling. The extended warranty sold by Volvo is third party, but the Dealer communicates directly with the warranty provider so no hassle to you as the owner. Obviously you can get cheaper alternatives, but you'll be the one talking to the warranty provider.

I'm glad I paid for the Volvo extended warranty, as last year my XC60 D4 (four years old, 65,000 miles) suffered coolant loss which turned out to be head gasket related. Bill would have been £2500, so the price of the warranty was more than worth it for me.

My V90 is now three years old. Its just had its third service and first MOT last week at my local Volvo dealer.
Should I have been offered a chance to purchase an extension to the warranty, or is it you have something you have to research and purchase yourself?

Think you need to enquire directly with the dealer then buy through them

Thanks James77.
In these days when "up selling" is the name of the game, I would have thought the dealer might have mentioned it.
I will give them a ring and see what sort of price is offered.
