The online offering wasn't as good as that offered by dealerships - and not all dealerships offered a longer policy than that offered online. I think the dealership offering is linked to a 'financial qualification' or 'organisational financial membership' criteria of certain Volvo dealership staff members.

ie. If they 'have such a suitable member of staff', then 'they can' - if not, then 'they can't', sorta kinda.

With Warranty Direct I was able to very clearly specify exactly what I wanted and take out a policy for a longer period than Volvo were offering.

The XC90 Inscription Pro Volvo I am talking about, now has a total 5 yrs of Volvo Service Plans and 6 yrs of extremely comprehensive Warranty.

Of course, both the Warranty and Service Plans are valueless if you ever trade your car in to a dealership at the end of your ownership. However, my family would usually attempt the sale of our vehicles themselves and using Autotrader's excellent facilities.

Indeed, in so doing, our vehicles' sales features can often be far better than those offered by Volvo dealerships.

Referring to the penultimate paragraph (tried to highlight it and failed). That statement is not totally correct in all cases. I took out a 5 year Volvo service plan and a Marshalls Group (Volvo dealer) extended warranty for 6 years (in fact 3 years) when I bought my last V90. The warranty was through CarCare as is Volvos. The paperwork showed 3 years cover starting the day after the manufacturers warranty ran out. I cancelled the cover before it commenced and got the full amount paid back. It went into my bank yesterday I had to go through the supplying dealer and technically they cancelled it. Either way I got my money back. I did lose the outstanding services.

Does anyone know if the warranty available through Volvo can be bought by someone other than the original purchaser?
If I were to buy a used car that was under 3 years old, could I purchase the Volvo warranty, or would I have to go for a 3rd party one?

You can buy it as far as I`m aware.

I`m in the same boat. My dealer said he`ll be in touch 3 months before the 3 years is up. I`ve had the car 7 months and it`s 3 in Augusr.

Hi,
I am the second owner of our 66 plate XC90 - bought not through a main Volvo Dealer at ~2 years old and had no problems getting the 2 year extended warranty added on (for £895) I think...
You should be fine (excluding current world threats!)

My 3 year warranty is due up at the end of May, and I got the letter through the post from Volvo. £495 for a year, nothing longer and the whole "this, that and the other isn't covered"... I was still considering it, and then I got a call from Motoreasy. Now I don't like cold calls, but whilst they were on the line I checked them out and all I'm seeing is good, good and good reviews. He took me through everything that's covered, and to be honest it's easier to say what wasn't covered. It's effectively triple the cover that Volvo offer, I still take the car to Volvo to be fixed and everything is as normal. The only thing not covered is consumables.

£535 for 18 months, and the option to pay it interest free over 4 payments if I desire... I bit his hand off.

You could about 4 years ago, I did!! I was offered it at the end of the manufacturers warranty.

Yes I received an acknowledgement email with a warranty transaction ID number.
