Default V40 BRAKE PADS ??

HI, I HAVE RECENTLY BECOME THE PROUD OWNER OF A 1999 V40 T SE (LPT) WHICH I THINK IS A FABULOUS CAR BUT RECENTLY WHEN COLD I HEAR A METALLIC CLICKING FROM WHAT APPEARS TO BE THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE WHEEL AREA.IT SOUND SIMILAR TO THE SOUND A WORN CV JOINT WOULD MAKE BUT THE NOISE DISAPPEARS WHEN THE ENGINE WARMS UP.THE NOISE IS ONLY NOTICEABLE JUST AS YOU ARE PULLING AWAY AND OCCURS EVEN IN A STRAIGHT LINE WHICH LEADS ME TO RULE OUT THE CV. I READ IN THE HANDBOOK THAT WHEN THE PADS NEED REPLACING YOU WILL HEAR A SHARP METALLIC SOUND AS THE CAR HAS A MANUAL AUDIBLE WARNING DEVICE AND WONDER IF THATS WHAT I CAN HEAR?THE BOOK DOESNT SAY IF IT SHOULD BE A CLICKING OR CONSTANT SOUND OR HOW LOUD IT IS.THE CAR DRIVES FINE AND BRAKES WELL WITH NO PULLING TO ONE SIDE.I`M GONNA GET THE GARAGE TO CHECK IT OUT NEXT WEEK BUT WOULD WELCOME ANY ADVICE.I CANT BELIEVE VOLVO HAVE NOT GOT AN ELECTRONIC BRAKE PAD WEAR WARNING LIGHT IN THIS CAR WHEN MY 12 YEAR OLD FORD SCORPIO I JUST SWAPPED IT FOR HAD ONE!!

Default RE: V40 BRAKE PADS ??

I am new to this site as you may have guessed and think i`ve found the answer under technical info elsewhere on this site. There is a page referring to this ticking noise and it blames the canister purge valve which states this noise increases with cold weather.Assuming thats what the noise is does anyone know if this is serious, apparently a dealer can fit a rubberised clamp to mute the sound.has anyone had this done and at what cost? as although my car has fsh the warranty would have run out in april. If I dont have this done what would happen, ie. is this critical or simply an annoyance that can be lived with??
