Changing gear in my s40 2.0 1998 model
Changing from 2nd to 3rd and 3rd to 4th and in opposite direction. Volvo dealers suggest that this is either the gate or bearings and also may be clutch wear. Suggested replacements costs are £659 all in. Any useful suggestions please

Usually the gear will not engage and i end up slowing down while I either change to a lower gear or i succeed in engaging the correcct gear usualll crunching.
It appears to happen when I have been driving for about 5 miles |

Just as a long shot (apart from what has already been suggested), how is the gearbox linked to the gear stick? I had a similar problem ona 205 and it was caused by the selector under the car moving out of position just a couple of mil. Does anyone know of this can happen to these cars?
