V40 Q's
Hey Guys,
Couple of Q's for you. 1) I had to take a load of stuff to the tip at the weekend and so tipped my seats down for the first time. Whilst I was amazed at how much stuff you can actually fit, I was surprised that the seats don't go completely flat (headrests were removed from the rear). Is this right? Esp the front seat, which even when push all the way back caught on the dashboard. Still like the way it folds forward though - allowed me to get longpeices of wood in without feeding through the gap in the front seats. 2) When sitting at traffic lights and putting the car into gear there is a faint 'clunk'. There is no noticeable feeling that goes with it, and when the stereo is on you don't hear it. Note: it's not when pulling off, but just when putting it into gear. Ideas? Thanks in advance Stu PS Dan: Had it about a month and yup economy is improving as you suggested it would :) |

RE: V40 Q's
Hi Stu.
Good to hear about the fuel economy. ;-) On the subject of your seats, did you pull the back seat bottom cushion forward from the backrest before you tilted the seat backs down? There is a little loop in the middle of the seat cushion by the seat belt clasps that you grab and pull the cushion towards the front seats, with the hinge at the front of the bottom cushion by the back seat footwell. Once this is done, remove the head restraints and place them in the footwells and then tilt the seats forward. It goes a lot flatter that way. The clunk sound doesn't sound too bad but maybe put it on a list of things to check when it is next serviced? Keep your eye (ear) on it and see if it gets any worse/louder. You may just be suffering from getting used to the car and hearing more of what goes on in it! Later, Dan. |

RE: V40 Q's
I didn't realise the seats bottoms were hinged as well. I'll have to play at the weekend.
I'll listen for the cluck over time (next service will be under Gurantee anyway) and see what happens. Thanks Stu |

RE: V40 Q's
Hi.
You probably have spilt rear seats in which case the bottom cushions will separately fold forward as well. Cheers, Dan. |

I do indeed have 60/40 (30/70?) split rear seats. If the rain stops at lunch I may venture outside and see if I can move them.
