Minor niggles that should get resolved at upcoming first service:

- intermittent 'Child Lock Service Required' pretty much from the get go (seem to operate fine and message clears when I turn them off then on again)

- automatic boot seems to do odd things now and again (ie hangs / doesn't fully open - clears if I close and open again)

Not serious and pretty sporadic - overall cars been fine

Default happy but could be happier

had my D5 AWD SE lux for 18 months and done 20k miles so far

all the usual recalls

faults to date
1) rear passenger door lock sticks and needs the unlock pressing twice to resolve - usual problem that it never occurs when booked in for service
2) paint over drivers door is now satrting to "blemish" waiting dealer to sort
3) recent leak onto parcel shelf sourced by dealer to be the roof fin (under dispute if the warranty covers due to a so called paint issue under the fin)
4) side light bulb (dealer charged £13 to change - note to self to DIY next time)
5) pod display and radio went off but managed to reset by switching off ignition and waiting 5 minutes - only happened once - fingers crossed

other than that, its been a great car - loved it in the snow last year and it does everything I need and more. The missus loves driving it as well.

would I buy another ? yes if they are still around in ten years as I intend to test the longevity of service of this one and see if they still last as long as the old style Volvos

Nearly two years and 40K kms.

Has not missed a beat until the recent DPF temperature sensor issue that was fixed under warranty. Otherwise the trips to the dealer were only for scheduled maintenance, tyre replacement and for recalls work.

Still very happy overall. Still happy with the style, comfort and handling of the car. No negatives come to mind.

1)
Low washer fluid level warning not working.

This has actually never worked for me, and in fact for over a year i just assumed there wasn't one fitted, until I saw someone mention theirs in passing on here. I was going to get in looked at at regular service, but was told it takes 3 HOURS to get down to the actual sensor. So I didn't bother.

then about 2 months ago, I got a recall (yes a recall !) for defective low level washer warning, which is fixed by a software update ? And the next day, without going near the dealer, the warning message appeared, and worked for about 2-3 weeks. and then stopped.

I'm holding out for my next annual service to get this recall done, but frankly in my case I think its the actually sensor that is defective.

2)
Power tailgate and stop/starting the car. If you open the tailgate and then turn the car off (or start it can't remember which), the tailgate refuses point blank to move again via power, and you have to forcibly close it.

3)
remote control response.
Door locking/unlocking and response to opening the tailgate just seems to be too long. And sometimes it just dosn't respond

with T6 AWD the only issue has been the deal retro fitted RSE - wasn't option when I placed the factory order. Engine interference was still being pursued though the dealer mechanic managed to bring it way down to the manageable level. Still waiting for the replacement fix from factory...

on almost forgot. The power tailgate stopped working completely out of blue but after the engine turned off for around half an hour somehow reset itself. Fingers crossed....

12,500km and looking good:

- I get the occasional "Child Lock Service Required", which is easily cleared by unlocking/locking the doors

- Some tarnishing to the twin chrome exhaust exits, again easily fixed with a dab of metal polish

Average mpg (calculated from fill-ups) is 21.6

I think volvo call this a "feature"....???

It appears if you move the car with the tailgate open it refuses to electrically close for about 5 minutes.

Neat "feature" eh...??? (not)

Regards

In my experience this type of fault occurs when the user (me) does something weird and out of sequence. Not Volvo's fault in my view. It makes me think of the Douglas Adams observation:

"A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof was to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools."

Yes, a significant problem with real-time programming is that you have to ensure that something safe and reasonable happens in all those situations you cannot reasonably programme for. However, I feel it would be helpful if the system told you that something unusual had happened and what you could do about it.

Interesting quote..!!!

When one wishes to say transport a large item down the driveway of their house , say an old sofa that will not quite fit in the boot fully - thus necessitating the boot lid to be somewhat open - in order to place out for the refuse collection - then nip off to work - one finds the boot lid will not electronically close for a good 5 minutes or so................Wheres the sense or point in this...????......!!!!!!
